Because every artistic discipline feeds on other expressions to evolve together, TAO Music & Underwater Festival is a cultural, artistic and eco-friendly event. The festival mixes music from Thai & Myanmar best Indy Band to abstract Hip-Hop, Electro and House. Dance, performance, visual art, mapping and graffiti while placing the environment at the center of its concerns.
Three days and three nights of celebration for a single cause : the protection of the environment. To be more efficient and in order to rally as many people as possible to its cause, the festival will appeal to all licensees of the largest diving and free diving apnea clubs on the island (via Koh Tao Tourism Association).

Optimisation of air travel

Thanks to an exceptional partnership with a airline company and for environmental purposes, the transfer of all artists from Bangkok to Koh Tao will be done with a single flight to avoid round trips and limit our carbon footprint.

Compost toilets

Because Koh Tao is a tiny island 70 Km offshore, in the Gulf of Thailand, all its water is imported from the mainland. It is therefore obvious that we must preserve this precious resource and try to save it, as much as we can. Sceptique tanks, and chemical toilets are very pollutant for water tables on small ecosystems. We first started with the simple idea that we can give back to nature what we consume, this is the best way to reconnect to the natural cycle of things and taking care of the ecosystem. Kept for a year on special dedicated tank, our waste will be used for growing flowers and trees by humanure. Compost toilets using rice husk or sawdust will be definitely the simplest way and the best ecological solution for the island, and this will allow us to save a huge quantity of water. Thus 60 compost toilets made of bamboo will be built on nighttime site for festivalgoers with illustrations by Cart’1 about the natural cycle of things.

In order to contribute to environmental respect, we are committed to minimise the use of plastic, Tao Festival will only allow use of biodegradable disposables or re-usable cups and plates on stalls. For instance, snacks will be served in plates made of banana leaves, with biodegradable cutlery and glasses. We will privilege local and organic food as much as possible and we will limit packaging. We also encourage people to minimise water wastage, specially in Koh Tao.

We will also provide recycling bins with a color code, to encourage people to separate their food from other waste (organic / cans / glass) for composting.
influential structures and environmental activists, the festival will draw on to the expertise of Xavier Colombet from Tsatsa House, who will drive all the ecological aspect on the Festival. Here are some steps we have taken to reduce to the maximum the carbon footprint of our event. As such, part of the festival profits will be given to sort the 45,000 tons of garbage out that have been deposited at the top of Aowleuk.

Sustainable constructions

The night site buildings will remain to becoming the Ocean School for the rest of the year. This responsible eco village will provide workshops and school intervention to sensitise locals but also tourists…

Clean Operation

Star Board, the global leader in Stand Up Paddle installed in Bangkok will be our partner to help us make the site clean after beach parties, with some cleaning beach sessions after every event. Using volunteers, we will do our best to involve the crowd by supplying recycling bin bags and either a returnable rubbish tax or reward incentives.
